Solution Doorbell Video Call Options For iOS Devices
This Article Applies To
Users of the Tapo iOS App with Tapo Doorbell
Background
In the recent update, the doorbell video call feature of the doorbell device has been further optimized and enhanced. Unlike the previous push notification format, with this feature enabled, you will now receive a doorbell video call on your phone similar to an incoming phone call. This ensures you won't miss any doorbell rings due to not noticing a push notification.
We also understand that some users prefer the push notification format. Don't worry, you can freely choose whether to enable the doorbell video call feature.
- Android users can adjust the settings via this path: Tapo App -> Doorbell Device Settings page -> Doorbell -> Doorbell Video Call.
On the iOS system, the doorbell video call feature utilizes the iOS CallKit system, the feature on&off control is not allowed on the App level. Therefore, the current form of the doorbell video call feature cannot be disabled. [Workaround available]

@Wayne-TP I have downloaded the Beta app but cannot see how to change the video call settings. If I open the doorbell settings on the invitee app it tells me I do not have permission to use any of the features. I have push notifications selected on my main account app.
Can you walk me through it please

@Harry50 it is the invitees that need the beta app, rather than the main user.
I had to install TestFlight and the beta app on 3 devices for my family to be able to switch off the video call setting as a shared user.

@be11aml Yes I have the beta app installed on the invitee phone. Should I delete the original Tapo app from that phone? Or revoke doorbell share from the invitee and re-invite?

@Harry50 make sure the user is logged out of the non-beta app ( could delete to be sure).
the on each invite's device got to the doorbell, settings cog, doorbell, doorbell video call and the option to select push notifications should be selected.

@be11aml Thanks but still no good. I deleted the original app then deleted and reinstalled the beta app. Still told me I didn't have authority to access any option on the doorbell settings screen. Deleted and reinstalled the beta app again. Same problem!

Which beta version did you install? You may check the app version on Tapo app, go to Me page, click About, the app version is at the bottom.

@Harry50 this is the version that is working for me.
Beta Tapo APP (Version 3.7.505(37556))
I'm sure there were others on this thread that also had success with this.

@Harry50 Where did you find that version? Is it marked with information about relevant optimizations?
I think you need to check the below article instead.

There is a plan to open permission for invitee accounts to select their preferred notification type for doorbell-pressed events. Check here for more details. Choose Tapo Doorbell Notification Type for Shared Device - Tapo Doorbell Ring Call

@Wayne-TP I read the article and intalled TestFlight. That version was the only option that came up.
I have now deleted the doorbell from the invitee app, because not only was it not possible to change the notification, it was also playing video at 2k, draining the battery by 9% in 24 hours. If and when Tapo upgrade the main app to allow invitees to manage the doorbell I will add it back.
