Editing doorbell announcements on Alexa Show
Editing doorbell announcements on Alexa Show
I have a Tapo D230 doorbell that automatically linked to my Alexa Show when I set it up, which is great. The only issue is that when someone rings the doorbell, Alexa plays a doorbell sound and displays the camera feed - which is exactly what I want - but then goes on to announce "Somebody is at the doorbell underscore Tapo underscore 1F1F".
Is there any way I can change this so that it either doesn't say anything, or just says "Somebody is at the door"?

@DuncanKent I know this is a year ago, but I've had this same issue. I have been having success with making a routine in Alexa for when the button is pressed. Have Alexa say a custom phrase.

Oh, that sounds like a good idea. I've never tried that, though - is it easy to do?

Why is this still an issue with Tapo. Surely this is an easy fix and hearing alexa say 'underscore' is ridiculous and annoying. Tapo - pull your finger out!

Agreed. TP-Link this is ridiculous. Why do we need to be told that there is someone at the door? A simple door chime would be more than adequate. Please add this feature. Meanwhile I may return mine as I all I wanted and expected was a simple chime

Just to clarify, the Doorbell Press Announcement is a feature provided by Alexa, you can keep it off if you don't need such annoucements.
To find this feature (the doorbell should be synced to Alexa first): open the Alexa app, choose your Tapo doorbell and go to the Settings page, then you will find the Doorbell Press Annoucements toggle.

Hello everyone, based on my testing, the current behavior appears to have changed: Alexa announcements can now recognize the custom name you’ve set for your doorbell (the name you gave it either in the Tapo app or in Alexa).
Could you check whether your device is also showing the same result?
If your Alexa doorbell announcement is still using the default name like ‘Tapo_XXXX’, please try removing the doorbell from Alexa, updating the device name in the Tapo app, and then rediscovering the device in Alexa. After re‑enabling the Doorbell Press Announcement, see if Alexa now uses your custom name in the announcement.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I've followed these steps several times and still get the same result. I've just tried again based on your observation that the behaviour has changed, but to no avail.

I don't have that option in the Alexa app. I have a toggle for "Doorbell press notifications", but nothing about announcements. If I turn that toggle off, I get no notification on the Show at all.

What's the annoucement your Alexa sends now? Do you still have the Tapo D230?
