Hi all,

Could you please help me about the best way to connect my main Deco X50 unit to my network? Below I list the 2 alternatives and my dilemma is if it is better (= higher speed & stability) to connect the router to the main deco and then to the switch (alternative #1) or have the switch connected to the router and the main deco connected to switch (alternative #2).

Also, I would really appreciate some advice regarding the 2 TP-Link switches I have shortlisted (TL-SG1218MP or TL-SG1218MPE).

Thank you in advance for your help!

  @Panos13

Out of these two options I would prefer Alternative #2. Even if Deco mesh goes down, your wired equipment will keep working. Also, if you need to replace Deco mesh by some other brand of WiFi mesh, there will be less impact on home LAN.

Also, in Alternative #1 you will be passing all networking traffic through Main Deco X50, and if it can't handle the load you'll have issues that may be hard to troubleshoot.

For my house I have network diagram similar to Alternative #2: main switch connects to ISP Router, everything including Main Deco connects to switch. I have one wired Satellite Deco connecting to that same switch, also one with WiFi backhaul connecting to Main Deco.

Can't give any recommendations about switches, they are not familiar to me, but they are TP-Link brand - should be compatible with Deco Ethernet backhaul.
