Model: Tapo D235
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: N/A

I'm thinking of buying a D235 doorbell camera, but would like to know if this charging situation is viable?

If I connect it to run from its internal batteries, but also connect the hardwired flex to run indoors (but not normally connected to anything), can I connect the hardwired cable to charge the Doorbell when the battery runs low?  I'm thinking of avoiding the inconvenience of bringing it indoors periodically to charge, an annoyance with a different make of video doorbell I have.

My hope would be that I could connect the internal wiring to a power source (bell transformer or 12v DC battery) and charge the D235 without bringing it in.  Would this work, and if so how long might it take to charge?

Alternatively, if I connected an external solar panel to the hardwired connections, which would only produce electricity at some times (daylight hours) would this also be an option?

The doorbell can function on battery power alone or be powered through hardwiring, both options are available, and you can choose the one you prefer and find more convenient.

But if you have the option to hardwire the doorbell, why not keep it connected? Isn't it more troublesome if you need to disconnect and reconnect the wires regularly?

Hi Wayne,

I do not have the option to permanently hard wire it without lots of work.  I could leave a power source (e.g. 12v battery) temporarily connected say overnight, if this was sufficient to avoid bring the whole doorbell indoors.  My question is, can I do this?

OK great.  Would you know how long it would take to recharge when the hardwired supply was connected?

If you need faster charging efficiency, you should enable the "always on" mode for the doorbell in the app after completing the hardwiring. If this mode is not enabled, the charging efficiency will be slower than when using a USB adapter (5V 2A).

When using an 5V/2A usb charger, it will take about 6 hours to fully charge the doorbell.
