New Feature Elevate Your Smart Lock Security with Trace Protection: Random Numbers Before the Correct Pin Code
Let's take a look at the new feature for your Tapo smart lock, Trace Protection, adding an intelligent security layer to home security.
Supported Model
Tapo DL110(US) V1.6 - Firmware 1.0.23 Build 250312 Rel.185803
Tapo DL110(CA) V1.0 - Firmware 1.0.23 Build 250218 Rel.111011
What is Trace Protection?
Trace Protection prevents smudge attacks where unauthorized individuals decipher your PIN code through the oil or water remnants on the keypad.
- Randomized Key Activation: When enabled, your keypad first lights up random digits instead of displaying the full PIN pad.
- Pattern Masking: Press all the random lit numbers 'wake' the actual PIN entry screen.
- Secure Access: Only then can you enter your true PIN to unlock.
☆ Mask physical traces By forcing contact with random keys, it scatters smudges evenly, preventing snoopers from cracking your code by obscuring telltale smudges on often-pressed keys.
☆ Block visual snooping Potential intruder can’t distinguish your real PIN from the randomized wake-up taps.
Next Level Up Security: Combine with Scramble PIN!
Boost protection by enabling both Trace Protection and Scramble PIN Code.
- Trace Protection: Tap randomized keys → wake keypad → enter true PIN
- Scramble PIN Code: Add dummy digits before or after your real PIN, e.g., 596212345568.
Example:
1. Tap all randomly lit keys to activate the keypad.
2. Enter your PIN sandwiched between random digits: [fake numbers] + [true PIN] + [fake numbers].
Configuration Path
1. Open the Tapo app and navigate to the smart lock's Device Settings page.
2. Go to Security Settings.
3. Click Scramble PIN Code, or Trace Protection.
