I have a re450 v4 AC1750 repeater.

After installing the firmware RE450(EU)_V4_1.0.20 Build 230213, it is no longer possible to change the name of the extender's network.

I thought it was a bad firmware installation error. I reset the extender several times and the problem persisted.

I spoke to support and my extender was replaced. I installed the new repeater and was asked to update the firmware again. I was careful to install it via RJ45, and again the extender shows the same errors.

It is not possible to change the name of the extender's network. It is not possible to disable any of the extender's networks. No changes are saved for more than 5 minutes.

I saw other people on reddit complaining about similar situations with the same extender.

 

How are you going to solve this?

Hi,

 

The most likely reason for this behavior is that your Wi-Fi router supports "EasyMesh" and when you upgraded the firmware of the RE450 to a version that also supports EasyMesh the RE450 established a Mesh network with your Wi-Fi router. In a Mesh network the network name of the extender must be the same as the name of the main network and therefore cannot be changed.

 

To get around this you have a few options.

- switch "EasyMesh" off on the RE450 (refer to the picture below)

- switch "EasyMesh" off on your Wi-Fi router (might also be just called "Mesh")

- install the old firmware RE450(EU)_V4_1.0.11 Build 220727 on your extender

Hello @woozle I use the router from my internet provider (HG8247X6-8N-10) and it does not have a "Mesh" system. The extender has never had EasyMesh disabled. And I had already tried to downgrade the firmware on the previous extender and it did not work. But it worked on this one :) After all, it really is a problem with the firmware, the only one that solved it was the first one (RE450(EU)_V4_1.0.11 Build 220727). The changes in the extender's networks have not yet returned to the same ones as the router. It has been 1 hour since the last downgrade. Thank you. ***TPLink still has to check this problem in the firmware update

Glad to hear you've got it working.

 

Perhaps your Internet provider doesn't advertise the Mesh feature of their router, but according to the website of the Wi-Fi Alliance (https://www.wi-fi.org/product-finder) the HG8247X6-8N-10 has been Wi-Fi EasyMesh certified by them.

 

The reason why you don't face the issue you reported with the firmware version RE450(EU)_V4_1.0.11 Build 220727 is because this firmware version doesn't support "EasyMesh" yet.

 

Anyway, in case you tried to disable the EasyMesh of the RE450 via the switch marked with the red arrow in the screenshot, but you still were not able to edit the network names afterwards, then this would be something TP-Link needs to correct in a firmware update.
