[repost] My experience with L535 and switching to home assistant using mater.
my experience with L535 and switching to home assistant using mater.
I bought and still have one the mid he revision models before this model got the lumen bump hw rev 3. It attracted me being one the first I found that had matter support and ticked all the boxes ie being brighter at the time than others at the price range. Anyway tbh I've not had problems with it on a daily basis, the talk app detected it automatically without having to add / pair which was result, the tapo apps 3rd party support ie Google Amazon etc also did the job, for bulbs at least....
Now I'm finally making the switch to home assistant from a pro-dominantly Google system, I had to mess around more with matter sharing etc, now don't get me wrong when it works it works with the basics (still limited by the matter specs as to available functions over matter) but it does have its quirks. Now I will say tapo lights seem to be one of the products (assuming cause it's matter ) that actually isn't provider locked so to speak but I won't go further on that topic.
The matter sharing seems to have few quirks one being adding into home assistant as an existing device with code wouldn't play ball even when verifying I'm pairing on mobile using 2.4ghz WiFi (big one to look for peeps) and also has Bluetooth.
After some reading I learned that the l535 at least but probably applies to the other bulb models too is it's advertise / discover ability function only kicks in with after a 5 on off switch or removing from the tap app notified by the flashing, so I readded back to the tapo app to copy the matter code the removed the bulb from tapo app then killed the app and added to hassio as a new device which I'd tried before, bang goes in immediately! Lol
So it's something to try if you run into similar issues, have hassio app at the devices page ready to quickly add a matter device, then go back to the tapo app to grab the matter code, then just remove it from the tapo app, THEN KILL THE APP NOT JUST SWITCH App I mention this as for myself, occasionally the tapo app automatically paired the bulb back before I'd got to adding in hassio, but try it, it works every time.
Finally after adding to hassio just add back into tapo, that pairs automatically anyway which solved my issue not being able to pair existing devices via matter code
Back to the bulb itself as I mentioned it works as daily driver and is multi system capable via matter or via the 3rd party app option, the only issues other than quirks are down to the matter specifications at present, but that isn't an issue for myself anyway, plus being matter capable device it at least helps overcome the dreaded provider lock in as mentioned earlier which I do know from experience is big road block for other devices of tapos.
Appologise to go on, if you made it through thanks for reading,
