Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.7.0

Hi @TP_LINK and @David-TP

Hope you are well. I am using 5 Deco M4 routers for a home mesh. The main deco is connected via the supplied ethernet cable to the ISP router.

The ISP router provides me with a steady bandwidth of 300Mbps, but when I connect to the Mesh Wi-Fi (directly to the main deco), I notice a considerable drop in speeds (often between 80-150Mbps). All my Decos are M4 v2, running firmware 1.7.0.

I have also noticed a fair bit of speed drop in the farthest decos, but the signal for each deco shows as "strong" on the deco app, and the deco to deco distance is max ~10-12 metres and there are no concrete walls in between.

I tried turning QoS to 1000Mbps as suggested on the forum, and also turned off SIP ALG and UPNP settings, but I do not see a visible improvement in speed on the mesh except maybe 10-20 Mbps. Would be great if you can suggest anything else I should try.

Regards,

Puneet

  @Puneetag39 Try to use AP Mode and then check your speed.

Please & Thank You !! ❤️

  @Puneetag39

Hi, are all the satellite M4 units using WiFi Backhaul? How many online clients are in the Mesh network?

-Would there be any chance that you could connect some of them via Ethernet cables?

General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on the Deco

The main Deco is the brain of the Mesh system. The increase in satellite units will add more pressure to the CPU load and memory usage of the main unit. Satellite units replicate network settings and communicate with the main Deco through Mesh Backhaul. In cases where they operate on WiFi Backhaul, the wireless module of the main Deco would manage communication with the satellite units and handle network traffic from mobile clients. When the data processing is overloaded, you might experience a speed loss and network instability.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

  @David-TP Thank you - I have around 7-10 active clients at any time. I don't think I can wire some Deco units but would replacing the main Deco M4 with another model Deco help? I could purchase a M5/X50 etc. and replace one Deco if that is helpful.
