Model: Tapo D235
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.19

Hello,

I upgraded yesterday my Ring Doorbell and Ring cameras to Tapo devices and so far I am regretting it. The battery on my devices are not lasting at all (even on my C460 KIT with a solar panel) but most notably on my D235 video Doorbell. I installed it with 66% battery late last night, it is now 9:30am and it has dropped to 20%! So basically it won't even last 24 hours. This is in power saving mode.

Here are screenshots:

Ive worked out the issue

The TP-Link Smart Home integration within Home Assistant seems to dramatically drain the batteries of the devices.

I switched to the Tapo Camera Control integration and the problem is solved.

So not an issue with the devices themselves

Also the doorbell is not facing a busy street and I have the video resolution lowered (which defeats the point of why I got a higher end model) with a wake sensitivity of 5 and the detection zone just the area in front of the camera

Also the WiFi connection is strong as the camera is very close to an access point:

And my settings for the clips (not that there are any recordings)

This is a brand new doorbell and it hasn't rained so water ingress shouldn't have caused any problems, plus its IP66 rated if I recall

  @JC1989

May i know what router you use? To analyze this case, please export a log from the doorbell, check this instruction: How to get the log of Tapo Camera

To assist with this case, a specialist will help to follow it up through email. Please check your inbox later to confirm. If the email you used to register for the TP-Link community is not your contact email or you cannot access it, please send me your contact email through private message.

  @Wayne-TP

A TP-Link BE550/9300. Its about 5 feet away from the outdoor camera and about 7 from the doorbell

I will get logs when back home

Re:D235 Doorbell Battery not lasting a day
Wednesday

I too had problems with the battery in my D235 draining too fast - nothing as extreme as the OP's experience, but also coming from a 3 ear old Ring doorbell which lasted several months on a full battery charge, I found it annoying that the brand new D235 battery would last me barely a month, despite having set it up with conservative detection- and alarm settings, and serving as the front door bell/camera overlooking a merely moderately busy bit of private road.

I am also running HA and decided to disable the D235 in HA, hoping this may improve battery life - it did, but not significantly so.

Four months into my D235 ownership I have now upgraded my WiFi network (from a single router in the office, to a mesh covering the entire house).

Checking the battery behaviour of the D235 a few days after the WiFi upgrade (and the expected faff of having to reset the D235 and recommission it on the new WiFi) I have now found that the battery has barely drained at all - I reckon that a more stable WiFi signal has helped reduce the amount of effort the D235 had to put into re-connects and re-transmissions.

I appreciate this may not be the answer to all and everyone's questions relating to battery issues with this door bell camera, but wanted to share this as it may be part of the jigsaw for some fellow D235 owners.
