Tapo L920-5 on staircase
Hello,
I’m planning to illuminate the steps of a staircase using 3 units of Tapo L920-5, which I want to cut into 15 individual 1-meter segments, one per step, connected via 50 cm wires. I will stay within the 5-meter limit per controller.
I understand that the L920 is an RGB-IC strip, and that cutting and reconnecting is generally not recommended, but I would like to ask:
-
Is it possible to use standard 4-pin (10 mm) connectors (like those used for 5050 RGB strips) to supply power and signal to each segment? Or would you recommend soldering wires directly?
-
Will the effects and zone-based control (such as flowing animations and color transitions) still function properly with physically separated segments?
-
Does TP-Link offer any recommended or supported solution for this type of setup – where segments are physically disconnected but still share a single controller?
Thank you in advance for your help!
