Help!  Just bought 4 of these as they are advertised as door or window contact sensors.  Great I thought I can put them on my conservatory and utility doors and windows.

Unfortunately they have arrived with basic sticky pads to attach to door and frame that will only work if the face of the door and the frame are completely flush when closed!  UPVC doors and windows are surely the most common type in the country and none of them that I've ever seen close flush in their frames.  Surely there must be a solution to this fitting hurdle otherwise this product is surely being mis-sold as a door contact?  I see no way of fitting these to ANY doors or windows in my house as NONE of my doors and windows close flush in their frames which is completely normal as far as I'm aware?  At the moment the only doors I could fit these too would be kitchen cupboards!

Come on TP-Link I must be missing something obvious here surely you haven't designed manufactured and marketed a door contact that can't actually be fitted to doors???

Please confirm I'm the one being daft and missing an obvious answer to this. laugh

  @Deanosaurus

I recommend testing whether the sensor can detect the open and closed states from the current height difference between the doors and frames. If it doesn't work, consider raising the sensor on the shorter side, for example, by using the double-sided foam tape.

  @Wayne-TP Thanks for the reply, yes I considered trying this before posting but held off as all the foam tape I have at the moment is black and all my frames are white so even if it worked it may not look great aesthetically.  Just thought others may have raised this and that there may have been a better solution suggested.

Also I thought that operating with a height difference between the magnets may reduce the effective lifespan of the battery - do you have a view on this?

Kind regards.

  @Wayne-TP my door contact works even though the 2 parts are angled and stand off the door and frame at different heights (due to the profile of the UPVC frame).  Aesthetically not ideal but at least it works.

Maybe some kind of customisable mount could be considered or at least a couple of specific mounts could be developed that fit the most common UPVC profiles?
