Model: Tapo P100
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 240411 Rel. 143808

I reside in Brisbane, Australia, which does not observe daylight saving time and remains consistently at UTC+10. In contrast, Sydney observes daylight saving, shifting from UTC+10 during April to October, to UTC+11 between October and April.

Earlier in 2025, I transitioned to using Tapo P100 smart plugs to manage my aquarium equipment. I initially assumed the scheduling functionality would align with my mobile device’s timezone settings. However, I’ve discovered that the P100 devices rely on an internal timezone database. The Device Info indicates the timezone is set to Australia/Sydney, and unfortunately, this setting is locked and cannot be modified.

Until the weekend of October 4th–5th, everything functioned as expected, since both Brisbane and Sydney were aligned at UTC+10. With Sydney now observing daylight saving and shifting to UTC+11, all scheduled timers on my devices are now offset by one hour. This discrepancy has disrupted the carefully calibrated balance of CO₂, O₂, and lighting in my aquarium system. To workaround this, I’ve adjusted all schedules forward by one hour, but will need to revert them again in April.

Given TP-Link’s reputation and the sophistication of its products, I would expect support for Brisbane’s timezone to be available. If there is a way to configure the devices to reflect Brisbane’s timezone accurately, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Addition - I have a TP-Link AX3000 4-Stream Wi-Fi 6 Router, and I have checked the timezone settings on the router and they are set to Brisbane timezone, i.e. a constant UTC+10.

Make sure your phone is set to the correct time zone. Then reset and reconfigure the smart plug, see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply. Phone has never not been set to Brisbane Timezone as has Router. But resetting the smart plugs has indeed corrected the issue, so thank you for that suggestion.

But it does leave me with a concern. When I set the smart plugs earlier this year, I followed exactly the same process as I did when I reset early today. So I assume when I originally set them up they would have been set correctly to Brisbane timezone, so why would the plugs have automatically got changed to Sydney timezone?

And equally concerning, does this sort of behaviour happen offer on these plugs? I am using them to balance aquarium equipment which could have an impact if timings get changed.

Should I go back to mechanical timer switches?

We suggest checking if the time zone set on your phone's operating system is correct, as the plug will automatically sync with your phone's time zone during configuration. You can confirm the current time zone of the smart plug through: plug Device Settings page > Device Info.
