Home Assistant TP-LINK Smart Home integration fails for RV-30 Max vacuum
Official TP-Link Smart Home integration for Tapo devices in Home Assistant, no longer connects & generates this error in the log:
Robot Vacuum RV30 Max Plus

Please note that Home Assistant is NOT a supported third-party by Tapo. If you're trying to manage smart devices through the integration provided by Home Assistant, this is not an officially supported method. For this kind of connection failure issue, you can find suggestions in this article - check the Q2. Frequently asked questions about the "Third-Party Compatibility" feature
On the other hand, it's worth noting that it is possible to manage the RV30 Max Plus with Home Assistant if you use Matter -- as both RV30 Max Plus and Home Assistant support Matter. Through this protocol, you can manage Matter-certified devices on any compatible third-party platforms.
Here is the configuration guide for the major Matter platforms, FYI. The process should be pretty similar if you’re setting up with another Matter-compatible system. If you still can't figure out how to do the setup, I recommend searching for instructions in the Home Assistant community. How to set up Matter device with Alexa, Google, Apple or SmartThings
The vacuum's Matter code can be found in the device settings page in the Tapo app. Where can I find the Matter setup code number for my TP-Link devices?

The issue is that the *official* TP-Link integration in Home Assistant *WAS* working perfectly well for the RV30 Max Plus, until AFTER the robot vacuum was upgraded to Firmware version 1.3.0 Build 250909 Rel. 135514, Sub version 0.0.10.1880-1.4.82
So I would suggest that whatever your Developers broke with that firmware upgrade, that you un-break it & release a fixed firmware version ASAP.

Home Assistant has not been a third-party that TP-Link officially supports. As mentioned, Tapo API is not open to the public, the resources you found online are not provided by TP-Link official.

@Wayne-TP Well, if you want people to keep buying TP-Link products, then I suggest you start officially supporting it & join the 'Works with Home Assistant' Foundation:

@Wayne-TP If possible, I would initially be satisfied with Matter support...
However, I foolishly opted for an RV 20 Max Plus. While it was sold to me as "intended for Matter support," all I've heard are old and new announcements and repeated reaffirmations. The RV 30 Max Plus received Matter support for a year ago; when can I finally expect support for the RV 20 Max Plus?

I don't mean to be inaccurate, but it's possible that we as end users aren't being given all the information.
The RV20 Plus Max received Matter certification back in 2024. At the time, this was given as the reason why the process was only supposed to be a short one.
However, it's now 2026, and nothing visible has happened for end users.
Are there perhaps things that have already been done behind the scenes? Or is there already a beta version?

@Wayne-TP - to make it clear. The device should be managed locally as any other device from Tapo with the well known Protocols. The issue is the device goes into a mode which does not allow Third-Party compatibility, unlikely cameras, plugs, etc.
This is the situation since Tapo has deployed firmware 1.3.2 251022 Rel 144806. (The firmware was deployed to devices having Auto Firmware update off.) The Third Party compatibility option in the app does not change the protocol for the RV to allow local Third-Party compatibility.
Could you please review this issue and advise why is this happening or not happening as expected (Thrid Party compatibility)? Thanks!

I had purchased an RV30 Mx Pro late last year, & was pleased with how well it worked with Home Assistant. Then it just stopped, & I put in many hours of troubleshooting. But now I read that you've deliberately broken the API, and are callously dismissing the issue. If that doesn't change, that’ll be the last piece of Tapo gear that I buy. And I've bought a LOT of Kasa / TP-Link / Tapo gear over the years.
Why would you do such a thing to a large group of customers wanting to use your products with such a widely used home automation system? (2 million + users, per recent estimate).
The only saving grace might happen for me if you truly support Matter in a solid fashion.
