Model: Archer AX95
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.6 Build 20250120 rel. 38782

Hello, i have been seeing nightly reboots of my router for the last 3 nights and after investigating i discovered my router is trying to update its firmware from 1.0.4 to 1.0.6 but it is failing every time and trying again the next night. i have tried turning off the network switches (only things connected direct to it apart from the modem) and doing a cold reboot then update via the tether app but that also fails with no error messages, in fact the system log wipes during the reboot and only shows the startup info.

As a last ditch attempt i plugged in my partners laptop and downloaded/updated from the firmware update gui of the router but while that seemed to work fine once it got to about 60% or so it started flashing "operation failed" about 10 times at the bottom of the screen then rebooted.

This new firmware is not yet available for manual download via the support pages so am unable to do it that way.

Is this firmware update package just borked or is my router finally dieing?

for now i have disabled auto update and told the router to ignore this update.

For reference this is the update info from the update gui.....

Online Update

Update firmware for this router over the internet.

Firmware Version:

1.0.4 Build 20230620 rel.40495(4555)

Hardware Version:

Archer AX95 v1.0

Latest Firmware Version:

1.0.6 Build 20250120 rel.38782

is anyone else still using a ax95 out there and having the same issues or did yours install ok?

is yours even showing a update being available or am i being used as a live test subject?

Hi,

Even though the firmware itself is from January this year, it was only published on the "Worldwide" download webpage a couple of days ago. Other regional webpages have apparently not been updated yet.

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/archer-ax95/#Firmware   (in case you get a pop-up asking you to "GO" to your regional website, then dismiss the pop-up by clicking the X)

Note that this firmware is labeled for use with "EU" versions of the router.

If you are facing the situation described under "Method 2" of this guide https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/1482/, then try to recover the router by following it.

I would use the older firmware version that was working fine to attempt the recovery.

Tried method 2 after using my phone as a hotspot to downloaded both firmware files (1.0.2 and 1.0.4) and both of them failed to install both stopping at 10% with failed messages.

Tried method 1 and 1.0.2 said it had installed and rebooted but the router is still not working.

It is sending out 2 wifi signals and my phone can connect but teher cannot id the router and i cannot login via ip or tplinkwifi.net

At this point the misses if seriously annoyed so am going to order a router off amazon for next day delivery.

I ignored all the fuss with tplink thats going on but this next one might be my last. The sodding router was only 2 years old and its now listed as end of life.. . .. not impressed at all.

Re:Failed firmware update
Monday

Hello @Omnius ,

Thank you for contacting our community.

Since we haven't received similar feedback from other users, we can't confirm whether the unexpected behavior is due to a firmware update.

First, I'd like to confirm whether the Archer AX95's network is functioning correctly, even if automatic updates are disabled.

I hope I can offer some helpful suggestions and solutions. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot:
1. Ensure you are using the original power adapter and connect your router to a stable power outlet. Unstable power can cause unexpected reboots during firmware updates.
2. Check your Internet connection on the router to make sure it is working properly before starting the upgrade.
3. Verify the firmware file format. The firmware file should be in .bin format. If the upgrade process bar gets stuck, wait 5 minutes and then refresh the page. You can also try using a different web browser for the upgrade.

  @Joseph-TP

Hello, yes to all 3 and i have tryied chrome, firefox and edge for the update process this morning again with the same results. Default wifi networks show up and i can connect to them and get a 100 192 0.x address but there is no internet, teather can not see the router and i carnt get the admin page to open.

Light on front alternates between blue for about 3 seconds and red for 10.

I have ordered a replacement router (be550 as i carnt even get a direct replacement now) as i must get the network running again so am happy to send this one to tp-link for diagnosis if they want it otherwise its going in the electronic recycling bin at work.

Re:Failed firmware update
Monday - last edited Monday

Hi, it was bought about a year and a half to 2 years ago from currys/pc world in the uk so i would be very surprised if the warranty still holds but as said ive already ordered a replacement from amazon and it should be arriving today.

Im uk based. The router itself says its uk/eu and came with a tp-link branded uk power wart.

Will email uk support to see if they can help and if so will keep it as a spare since it never got the easymesh upgrade.
