Model: KE100 KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I'm looking to buy thermostats for all of my 14 Radiators. These talk to a Kasa Hub (hoping I can link in with my Tapo Smart home too)

But I don't understand how it controls the boiler.

I currently have a Firebird oil boiler - this has a Hive connection wired to it. I then have a thermostat in the Hallwall which i use to control the Hove, of Via an App.

However, if I want to switch to KASA range, I feel like the kit is missing the part that connect to the boiler?

The KE100 is a smart thermostatic valve that helps regulate room temperature by adjusting the valve’s opening ratio. It can't control the boiler.

KE100KIT is a Kasa device and can only be managed within the Kasa app. Some Tapo sensors can be linked with the KE100 to enhance your heating experience, such as the temperature & humidity sensor T310 and T315, or the contact sensor T110, which can detect whether a window is closed.

So you'd just have your heating on all the time, but control the heat in each room via thermostat on each Rad?

If your boiler already has smart controls, you can keep using them. Normally, a smart thermostatic valve does not conflict with the original setup.

Alternatively, you could use a Kasa smart plug to control the boiler, which helps avoid leaving it on continuously. With the smart plug, you can set schedules or operate it anytime through the app. *Please ensure you select a Kasa smart plug, not a Tapo model, as the Tapo plug cannot be managed within the Kasa app—the app used for the KE100 KIT. Most importantly, please verify whether your boiler is a supported type by the Kasa smart plug before purchasing. What types of loads can the Kasa plug support?

  @Hannay The KE100 is just a smart radiator valve, use it to replace your existing thermostatic radiator valves to give you more control and manage the hot-water/heating with standard timers.

We use KE100 valves with T315 temperature displays and an S210 Wall Switch to control the Boiler with *lots* of rules (The S210 switch can also control DC devices like boiler relays) along with room sensors and door/window sensors for zones and open door detection. It works really well and does full smart home tariff integration (mostly timers) radiator & hot water separation and solar integration along with running our AirBnB heating to stop muppets playing with the heating!

There has been a new thermostat display released (The KE110) that has more integration and manual buttons to control the temperature/operation, but that is not quite working properly yet with the Tapo eco-system (as of 28th Jan 2026) but has potential to be a game changer, especially as the Tapo E200 wall thermostat never actually happened!

With the advent of the S112 & S110E (basically hidden switches/relays) I would say TP-Link/Tapo/Kasa are 1 step away from releasing a full home heating management system, but they are not quite there yet unless you want to wing it yourself (Which is what I have done!)

My advice (Worth exactly what you pay for it!) is have a play with the KE100 now and wait for TP-Link to sort the KE110 thermostat and/or release a proper heating management system.

  @Charliepsycho

Thank you for the really useful post! I'm very Tapo based with over 90 tapo devices on my network. Would be great to have heating fully integrated with this!

I'm in no rush so will have wait to see the new products on offer 👍
