For anyone having this issue, it seems there's a bug with the app.
Copy paste of the solution found in a git issue of the python-kasa project:
- connect tapo app to the same network of devices (same VLAN)
- in app go to Profile - Third Party services
- disable Third Party
- enable Third Party
The key part is to have the phone in the same vlan, else it doesn't work.

Please note that the Home Assistant is not an officially supported third-party by Tapo, the Third‑party Compatibility feature does not guarantee functionality when used with non‑official platforms.

@Wayne-TP Understood. But is there any way to downgrade? This firmware upgrade made my device unusable. I'd like to revert the version to a working one

@Tritrimax Firmware downgrade is not supported either.

Would it be possible to send a bug report to your dev team?
It seems to me that the third party functionality is broken. It doesn't activate even if I enable it in the app. The encrypted protocol doesn't get disabled as expected.

@Tritrimax thanks for the heads up about VLANs. Unlike the P100/110 switches, the P300 didn't change its config unless I was on the same VLAN.
