Incorrect and Obsolete Currencies in the Tapo App (Energy Monitoring)
Model: Tapo P110
Hardware Version: 1.0
Firmware Version: 1.4.0 Build 251020 Rel.161559
Android App Version: 3.16.185
iOS App Version: 3.17.103
Hello @Solla-topee and @Wayne-TP,
I am reporting a clear data‑integrity issue in the currency selection list used in the Tapo Energy Monitoring feature.
Summary of the Issue
On Android (v3.16.185), the currency dropdown contains a long list of obsolete ISO 4217 codes and even non‑currency entries (e.g., precious metals).
On iOS (v3.17.103), the list appears correct and filtered.
This suggests the Android app is using an outdated or unfiltered ISO dataset.
Examples of Incorrect Entries (Android only)
- East German Mark (DDM) — discontinued in 1990
- Italian Lira (ITL), Spanish Peseta (ESP) — discontinued in 2002
- European Monetary Unit (XBB) — obsolete accounting unit
- Palladium (XPD) — precious metal, not a currency
There are dozens more.
Why This Matters
- Professionalism & Trust
Showing obsolete currencies undermines confidence in the app’s data quality. - User Experience
Users must scroll through 200+ irrelevant entries to find their actual currency. - Simple Fix
The iOS app already has the correct filtered list.
The Android app likely needs the same filtering applied (exclude ISO codes with status = “obsolete”).
Request
Please forward this to the Android development team.
The fix should be straightforward: filter the currency list to include only active ISO 4217 codes, matching the behavior already present on iOS.
Thank you for your attention.
Best regards,
John
