Problems with H200 hub updates?

I seem to struggle with firmware updates on my H200 hub. They seem to be getting worse as time goes by.
There's another update currently available, so I thought I would ask a few questions before attempting the update.

  • Do I need to tap update and then wait for 'many hours' for things to become stable?
  • Should I reboot the hub and/or cameras once the update is finished if things aren't working?
  • Is the saved data on my SD card making the update take a long time to complete? I currently have around 65GB of data on my SD card. I'm wondering if this could be impacting my updates?

Here's the last thread from the November update which was far from smooth for me: https://community.tp-link.com/en/smart-home/forum/topic/848580

Thanks.

  @HmmmUK

As i understand, firmware updates do not have a 'waiting period', they are complete once the installation finishes. If any abnormal behavior is observed, we should focus on the device and the issue itself.

Reboot is always a magic trick for a wide range of issues. Just don't do it when the update is still in progress — just make sure not to restart it while an update is still in progress (i.e., when the app shows the update is ongoing, or when device's LED indicator suggests it is updating).

@Wayne-TP if you should hear that stored data on the microSD card can effect things please try to update this thread.

I decided to go for the update on the H200 hub the other day as an outstanding one for my C420 cameras kept coming up as a 'nag' (1.4.2).
The hub update went through fast, but the SD card was greyed out after things had completed. I left it for a while, then tried a reboot or two without any success.

The C420 updates had to be retried a number of times before they showed as complete.

I was left with no access to my 4 cameras and the SD card was still greyed out.
It was late at night now, I was going to start reseating the SD card etc. in case that helped but decided to leave things till the morning.

In the morning everything was stable and working fine and has been for over a day now.
So I can only guess that the 65GB of SD data is being validated post update perhaps as after each update things take a long time to become functional and stable.

Just posting my experience in case it should help others seeing similar.
