Terrible 2.4Ghz Performance

Model: Deco XE75
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.3.1 Build20251023 Rel. 47884

Satellite unit on wired backhaul directly into main deco. Other satellite unit on Wifi backhaul. System is in AP mode (router functions are disabled)

System is great with 5Ghz WiFi but terrible with 2.4Ghz WiFi.  My IPhone 16 has terrible latency (90ms+) and slow speeds (sometimes slower than 1Mbps) when connecting to 2.4GHz guest WiFi or 2.4GHz IOT Wifi even when sitting less than 3 feet from the main Deco XE75 base unit.  No latency or speed problems when I connect to 5Ghz Wifi (or if I activate 5Ghz on either guest or IOT WiFi).

Various IOT devices are frequently showing as not connected - they connect and disconnect - and have poor performance on 2.4Ghz WiFI (the only option).  Some of these devices connect to the base unit and some to satellite units but it doesn't seem to make a difference to connection problems.  I have tried setting devices to connect to a specific Deco unit and I have turned off mesh technology for these devices. I have also confirmed that the system is using the latest firmware.  Regardless, given my iPhone barely works on 2.4GHz sitting 3 feet from the base it is not surprising that IOT devices are having issues when sitting much farther away from satellite units.

I have spent hours on this and my only conclusion is that Deco included the 2.4Ghz WiFi as an afterthought and didn't think it was important and so it uses a substandard radio for that band.

Since the primary purpose of this system is to allow connection of various IOT devices (temperature and water sensors, sump pump alarms, keypad doorlocks, etc.), I'm at a loss other than dumping the Deco system and going to something else ... Perhaps Ubiquiti as I believe it provides much greater control and control over individual nodes (setting channel frequencies, bandwidth, etc.) albeit in something that is much less user friendly.  Any other suggestions for a mesh system that would be similar to Deco but with properly functionion 2.4Ghz WiFi ?

Hi, I've left a message with a beta firmware for Deco XE75_V3. I think it would help to improve the 2.4GHz performance.

Please let me know how it works.

Best regards.

The property is on an acreage and that's the reason for the remote monitoring devices.  Won't be able to get back out till later next week but will give this a try then.

Question:  (1) If I install the beta firmware ... won't it just be overwritten by the next regular update and then I'll be back where I started? (2) I assume this will improve 2.4Ghz at some expense to 5Ghz (which I assume is why this is not part of the regular firmware stream)?

Sorry, would have replied in a PM but was unable to reply to the message I received from you.

Hi, the beta firmware has disabled the 2.4GHz Backhaul among Deco units and allows satellite units to use non-overlapping 2.4GHz channels for mobile clients.

Best regards.

I checked my Deco units and my XE75 Pro units are V2 (rather than V3) so I don't know if the firmware you messaged me will work with V2?  I also have an X50 Ver.1 unit and an X50 Outdoor (no version shown) in the mesh.

Would you be able to message me the beta firmware for these three models and versions? Thanks

Hi, thank you very much for the update.

The beta firmware for Deco XE75_v3 also works for V2.

How about the firmware version of the Deco X50_V1? The latest firmware 1.8.0 supports Channel Selection.

-If you could set Deco X50_V1 as the main Deco, you will see the entry on the Deco App to change the channels; then the satellite units will sync the wireless settings from the main Deco.

If you still prefer using Deco XE75 as the main Deco, I'll leave a message with a similar beta firmware for Deco X50-outdoor.

Best regards.
