Model: Tapo C460 KIT
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.1

Some of the videos I've seen on this model show the app having a "smart mode" in the night mode setting where the spotlight turns on when motion is activated and IR when not.

I do have the 24/7 capture going. Tried turning that off, still nothing.

Only somewhat work around is setting alarm but the lights flash and not constant.

Any one have insight? Why YouTube shows it as option?

Hello,

Welcome to TP-Link community.

To clarify, on the Tapo C460, the Color Mode functions similarly to what is referred to as “Smart Mode” on some battery‑powered models.

When Color Mode is enabled, the spotlight will turn on only when motion is detected. During periods with no detected motion, the camera remains in a low‑activity state and the spotlight stays off.
When 24/7 Capture is enabled, the behavior is slightly different at night:
if there is no motion detected, the camera will briefly use infrared (IR) illumination to perform continuous recording, rather than keeping the spotlight on continuously. The spotlight is still triggered only by motion events.

Best Regards.

  @Hilbert-TP life saver.

1. I never waited long enough

2. I was always within motion so it would turn on.

Just tested it. Worked on both cameras. Thank you much.
