Model: Tapo C200C
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have a camera showing my catflap.

The flap is placed in a passage, so unfortunately it will also register and notify every time a person passes the camera. Since it's placed on the floor, it will not recognice human legs as a person. On the other hand it will frequently register my cat as a person...

But this will generate way to many notifications and not useful saved clips, rater annoying

One option would be to set a time before movement is registered, it takes my cat a lot longer to pass in or out compared to a person walking by. Of course it would save from start if the movement takes longer than the set time.

Even better would be to have the camera triggerd by the flap, ie a door sensor. (i have an esp23 sensor, but guess asking for a non tapo sensor to trigger I guess is to much)

  @Hilbert-TP

Thanks for your answer.

After I wrote it I did what I guess I should have started with...

This camera has not been in use for a while and bought for a diffrent use case.

I been a "smarthomer" for over 10 years and use Homeassistant. And when I added the camera to HA I saw that it's possible to trigger the privacy mode.

And I have a sensor on the cat flap (esp32) so wrote an automation so when the flap opens it will start recordings and stop when it's closed again.

So as far as I'm concerned, I solved my problem.

But in general I think the possibility to not report detected movements until after a set interval could be useful for others as well.

Thanks

  @Strelniece

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your detailed use case.
At the moment, the features you mentioned—such as triggering recording only after a specific movement duration or  trigger the camera directly using an external third‑party sensor through the Tapo app are not supported on the Tapo C200C.  However, you may consider using Tapo sensors, depending on how you would like the trigger to work.

To better understand whether this could meet your needs, could you please help clarify:
What kind of trigger are you expecting (for example, motion, door open/close, temperature, etc.)?

What action would you like the camera to perform after being triggered (such as starting recording, sending a notification, etc.)?

Regarding the issue of your cat being misidentified as a person, this can happen depending on the camera angle, size of the object, and movement pattern. We recommend referring to the following guide for troubleshooting and optimization tips to reduce false person detections:
1. Adjust the Person Detection Area: Define specific zones where you want the camera to look for persons. This helps ignore unneeded areas.

2. Adjust the Sensitivity Setting: Fine-tune how sensitive the camera is to movement. A lower sensitivity can help reduce alerts.

3. Maintain an Optimal Detection Distance: For the most accurate detection of specific targets like people, we recommend positioning the camera so that the subject is between 1.5 meters to 5 meters (approximately 5 to 16 feet) away. This ensures the target appears at a suitable size and proportion within the camera's field of view, allowing the detection features to analyze it most effectively.

Best Regards.
