Model: Tapo C560WS
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: version : 1.1.10 Build260330 Rel.15980n

I am dissatisfied with the limited video resolution options of this product !
Given its premium positioning and price point, I find it unacceptable that the only available settings are Auto, 720P, and 4K.
This selection is completely insufficient for current requirements.
I request the release of a firmware update that unlocks more intermediate resolution options, in order to align the product's performance with its price segment.

Hi,
Could you please explain the reason why you'd like other resolution options and your usage scenario?
Best Regards

Could you explain why Tapo chose to offer the option to reduce the resolution down to 720p, but not provide an intermediate option such as Full HD (1080p) or 2K?

The reason I would like to be able to change the resolution is that, for everyday use and to save storage space, a 2K resolution would be more than sufficient.

However, during periods when I am away on vacation or whenever I want to capture as much detail as possible, I would prefer to use 4K resolution.
This would allow me to benefit from efficient storage usage during normal operation while still having maximum image quality available when needed.
Thnak you.

Hi,

Thank you for your question regarding the resolution options available on the Tapo C560WS.

To optimize the user experience and simplify management, the C560WS currently offers three selectable resolution modes: Auto, 720P, and 4K. We believe that providing these three core options strikes the best balance between clarity, smoothness, and storage efficiency.

1. Auto Mode: The camera intelligently adjusts the resolution based on your current network conditions, prioritizing smooth and stable live video.
2. 720P Mode: This mode ensures clear image quality while significantly conserving bandwidth and local storage space.
3. 4K Mode: Delivers ultra-high-definition video to capture maximum detail when needed.

Our focus is on refining the performance and reliability of these core options to ensure a stable and satisfactory user experience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by not offering intermediate resolution choices, and we truly appreciate your understanding. We have taken note of your feedback regarding the need for options like Full HD (1080p) or 2K. Your suggestion has been documented and forwarded to our product development team for further evaluation in future planning cycles.

Thank you for your valuable input and for helping us improve our products.

Hello, I also recently purchased several C530WS cameras.  Before these I have purchased a wide range of cameras (most WiFi in the 2k and 4k range, but some 1080P) and it seems that the Tapo is the only one that does not offer a more dynamic resolution range for streaming video quality.

This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to users who have many WiFi cameras and want to monitor many of them at the same time yet record in a high resolution.  For example, I live in a very remote area with no other homes in sight, on a large land lot.  As such, I have over a dozen cameras positioned to catch every possible means of egress onto my property.

With all the other cameras I can set the lo res streamiing resolution as low as 32kbps resulting in a somewhat blurry image that STILL provides enough visual information to see if there is an intrusion on all these 12 cameras in real time simultaneously.   I do not need to see a clear crisp image just for monitoring continously.  If all of my cameras had a minimum resolution of 720 then this would not be possible.

That means I must limit the number of Tapo cameras to only one or two.

The price point for these Tapo cameras is on the low side for PTZ, 3K cameras so I'm thinking that is the way costs were cut?

Couldn't the effective resolution / bandwidth be cut lower via firmare ?

  @Hilbert-TP

When do you estimate that a solution to this issue might be available?

The feedback from other users appears to be the same as mine, which indicates that this is a common request rather than an isolated case. Many users would benefit from having the ability to select intermediate resolutions such as 1080p or 2K.

From my research, this limitation seems to be specific to Tapo products. Most competing cameras offer multiple resolution options, allowing users to better balance image quality, bandwidth usage, and storage consumption according to their needs.

Could you please provide any information on whether this feature is currently under consideration or planned for a future firmware update?
Even a tentative timeframe would be helpful, as adding support for intermediate resolutions would significantly improve the flexibility and usability of the product.

  @Dexter21

Hello,

We have submitted your request for intermediate resolutions (such as 1080p and 2K) to our product development team for evaluation. The decision on whether and how to implement this feature, as well as its development timeline, will depend on their technical assessment and overall product planning. Therefore, we are unable to provide a specific timeframe or confirmation at this moment.

To help demonstrate the demand and priority of this feature to our product team, we encourage you and other users who share this need to vote and share your use cases in our dedicated community feedback post: Tapo C560WS only supports 4K and 720P. I would like to have other resolutions as well

In your comments, please describe:

  • Your specific monitoring scenario (e.g., multi-camera setup, bandwidth constraints, storage optimization needs).
  • Why intermediate resolutions would significantly improve your experience.

Collective user input is a crucial factor in prioritizing new features. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us improve our products.

Best Regards,
