Tapo D235 doesn't support facial recognition, nor can it be made to 'Play Auto Response' through automation. The facial recognition part can be addressed if you add a Tapo H500, the smart central hub, which enables the facial recognition feature (AI Empowerment) for the connected cameras or doorbells. The automation part for playing a response, though, doesn’t have a workaround.

Adding new product features is a process that requires comprehensive evaluation and tends to have a long implementation cycle. I haven’t heard anything about this specific automation feature being worked on, so I really can’t say if or when it might be added.

For this particular need, I recommend creating a separate feature request post in the community (Start a New Thread), such as one titled “Allow doorbell to play auto response via automation”. Other users with the same idea can upvote your post and join the discussion. Our product team regularly reviews and evaluates popular requests, and those with high vote counts and detailed background descriptions are prioritized for assessment.
