Hello,

The two red lights on the camera are infrared. The IR LED on the camera can't be turned off in night mode. The IR LED on the camera provides additional illumination, helping the camera's image sensor capture more detail and perform better in low-light environments. Without the IR LED at night, the cameras may display a black live view page.

Thanks for the information. However the two cameras I had origionly did not show any red lights at night, in fact, one of the origional cameras still does not.  Have the solid red lights come with a recent firmware update ?

Hello,

To help us better understand the situation, could you clarify a few points?
1. By “solid red lights,” are you specifically referring to the small Infrared (IR) LEDs around the camera lens that typically emit a soft red glow in low-light conditions? If possible, sharing a photo of the lights would be very helpful for accurate identification.

2. If these are indeed the IR LEDs, it is completely normal for them to turn on and emit a visible red glow when the camera’s night vision is actively engaged in infrared mode. This is how the camera illuminates the scene for night vision.

3. Regarding your other camera that does not show the red lights:
Does it still produce a clear nighttime image? (This tells us if the night vision function itself is working.)
What is its current “Night Vision” setting in the Tapo app? Is it set to “Infrared Mode,” “Smart Mode,” or “Full-Color Mode”? The behavior of the IR LEDs varies with this setting.

Best Regards,

I will take a photo of these lights when it gets dark, which is very late these days. But in the meantime I am referring to two solid lights at the bottom of the Camera. All the Cameras are set to IR only. Yes, all the cameras show a clear nighttime image. As I said two of the cameras show these lights but one does not ?

RE: Aparent duplicated notification in 'messages'
Thursday

  @Enduser2

When i began to  post I was seeing what seemed to me to be repeated messages and I was asked to notify you when this happened.  I have taken a screenshot of this

[ I have tried to upload the image but I receive this message    " Imnage source URL is missing ".  When I have uploaded my photoes to other messages I don't see this.

  @Enduser2

I just discovered a way to upload photos.

Please would someone explain what this means.  There are activations to display but sometimes I get this when I try to play them.

Hi,

If you see the message "You've reached your device limit for playing this video", reboot your camera and ensure device usage stays within these limits:

    1. For SD Card playback (remote or local), only one account/device can access clips at a time in the Tapo App.

    2. For local viewing, up to three devices can stream the live feed simultaneously. Connections via ONVIF or RTSP also count toward this limit.

    3. Remote viewing generally has no account/device limit.

Best Regards,

Hi,

Under normal operation, the IR LEDs should light up after a successful switch to night vision mode, and your live view should display a black-and-white image.

For your third camera  which does not show the red lights:

  1. Is the live feed in black-and-white when it’s in night vision mode?
  2. Could you please provide a screenshot of the live view from that camera at night?

In answer to our questions,

Q1.  Yes, the solid red lights that I am refering to are indeed the two small soft lights at the  bottom of the camera, I have tried to photograph them but the  camera lens dosn't like them, so I won't bother to show you.

Q2.  Yes, I understand that you are saying that it is normal to see them after dark.

Q3.  Yes, the camera that does not show the red lights does indeed produce a clear black and white picture at night, as do  the other two.  All the cameras are set to 'infered mode'.

I am not too bithered about the lights, although I would prefer them not to show any lights after dark,  But I don't understand why two do, and one dosn't.

Regards.
