Request for option to disable “Live” overlay + red indicator in Live View
Hello, after the latest updates of the Tapo app, a new overlay has appeared in the Live View screen of the cameras: a red dot with the “Live” label displayed in the upper‑right corner.
From a technical standpoint, this overlay:
-
is not related to recording (SD card, NVR, or H500)
-
does not depend on the camera firmware, but on the app’s UI layer
-
is rendered as a fixed graphic element on top of the RTSP/proprietary video stream
-
was not present in previous versions of the Tapo app
-
cannot be disabled through any setting
The issue is that this overlay is visually intrusive during monitoring, especially in multi‑camera layouts or on dedicated surveillance screens, where the graphic element remains permanently on top of the video without providing any operational benefit.
Since the distinction between Live View and Playback is already clear in the interface, it would be very useful to introduce an option to:
-
completely disable the overlay
-
reduce its size or make it less intrusive
-
show it only when switching between Live and Playback modes
A simple toggle in the app settings would solve the problem without affecting camera functionality or recording systems.
Thank you for your attention and for considering this improvement.
