Tapo and Deco - still need Hub?
I have an X73-DSL and am considering tapo bulbs. This deco can control some smart devices. I cannot seem to find out if I need to buy a tapo hub as well?

It depends on the kind of Tapo device you choose. Most Tapo devices can be directly connected to the router either via Wi-Fi or wired connections. However, Tapo SubG devices like sensors, certain battery cameras, and doorbells require the use of a hub. These devices operate on the SubG protocol instead of 2.4GHz and need to be connected to a Tapo hub rather than directly to the router.
Introducing Tapo Sub-GHz Technology
*Tapo light bulbs/strips currently do not have Sub-GHz models available (which require a hub for operation).
You can verify this parameter information in the wireless section of the product Specifications page on the TP-Link official website. The 868/922MHz is the frequency that Tapo SubG devices run on.
Alternatively, simply search for the keyword "hub" on the product details page to see if the device model requires a hub for operation.
E.g.
Tapo T310 |
Tapo C320WS |
