I just got the C210 to keep track of my kitten and I want to set it up for motion detection howeber, it just focus' on the fan and nothing else. Does this mean I can't use motion detection unless the fan is off of can I set zones where it won't scan?

If you have enabled the motion tracking feature on the camera, it's normal for the camera to track the fan if it's moving all the time.
In your usage scenario, you can set an activity zone and let the fan out of the activity zone for a try. However, if the fan goes into the activity zone when the camera tracks other events, it may cause the same issue.
