TPL-WPA4220 v1 Firmware Upgrade

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my network extender, but am running into some trouble.
300Mbps AV500 WiFi Powerline Extender
Model No: TL-WPA4220
Firmware Version: 1.2.9 Build 151026 Rel.75883n, MAC-QCA7420-1.1.0.844-01-20120919-FINAL
Hardware Version: WPA4220 v1 08EF4015
I see a firmware upgrade available:
http://www.tp-link.com/us/download/TL-WPA4220.html#Firmware
http://static.tp-link.com/res/down/soft/TL-WPA4220_V1_160421.zip
which extracts into:
MAC-7420-v1.3.0-00-CS.nvm
QCA7420-WallAdapter-HomePlugAV_CE-ClassB.pib
I downloaded the utility:
http://www.tp-link.com/us/download/TL-WPA4220.html#Utility
http://static.tp-link.com/resources/software/TL-WPA4220_V1_Utility.zip
but the only option seems to open the web console and the web console seems to only accept .bin files.
Does anyone have any tips for upgrading the firmware on this device?
Thanks.

Download the TPPLC Utility - This should be the link
http://www.tp-link.com/us/download/TL-WPA4220KIT.html#Utility
Under here you can click advanced settings on the powerline and update where you can point it to the NVM and PIB files. I would connect from your PC to the unit with an ethernet cable to update the firmware.

Thank you for the link. I didn’t think to use the KIT version of the utility. Does it matter if I connect to Ethernet via the source adapter (attached to router), the receiving adapter (attached to desktop), or both?Thanks.bigmick777 wrote

Not sure but I connected direct from PC to Powerline to mitigate any connectivity issues whilst it's being upgraded - safer to do it this way in my opinion.

Re:TPL-WPA4220 v1 Firmware Upgrade

Wi-Fi Powerline extender is composed of two parts: powerline adapter part (PLC) and access point part (AP), which is like that we put a wired powerline adapter and a wireless access point into one box, and make them a Wi-Fi powerline extender.
the firmware for PLC part and the firmware for AP part are separated. So the firmware update for PLC part and AP part are independent and separated.
and most of other firmware of TL-WPA 4220 listed on tp-link website are the firmware for AP part. And the firmware for AP part is .bin file.
If you extract the file , see a .nvm file and a .pvb file, or a .ggl file. (The firmware is a .nvm file and a .pvb file combined, or a .ggl file, which is determined by the chips). This kind of firmware (firmware for PLC part) needs to be upgraded by tpPLC utility

i see that:
- there is no AP specific firmware on the web site
- the 2 firmware versions are now different on my devices
- as in the picture both my unit inside the PLC utility are marked as PLC......why???
