Model :

Hardware Version : 1

Firmware Version : 3.17.0

ISP : Comcast

Has anyone else encountered this? Router perfectly functional for internet use but has disappeared from File Explorer's Network section device listings and along with it, the attached USB storage used for backing up the computers on the network.

USB storage drive is quite visible from within the router's firmware but not visible to the network computers. Can't browse for it with the backup /imaging software, in this case, Macrium Reflect.

I discovered the problem and the solution.

The problem occurred sometime after the Microsoft pushed the Fall Creators update. What happened was the Creator's update changed the SMB from v. 1 to v. 2. The most recent firmware version for the Archer C9 is incompatible with SMB v. 2.

The fix is to open the Windows Feature tool and reinstate SMB v.1. Windows finds the files and installs them and then asks you to reboot the computer. After rebooting use the Windows RUN tool and type in the IP for the router/storage volume and hit Enter. Then you will see the router/storage volume appear in the network device listing in File Explorer. From there, just create a network share for the drive by right clicking on "Network" in the left viewing pane of File Explorer. Once that is in place you can right click on it and rename it if your want.
