Archer C9 sending requests to a.root-servers.net every couple of seconds, why?

Can anyone explain to me why my router (Archer C9 AC1900) is constantly sending out requests to a.root-servers.net? I've looked at logs and it's at least every 4 seconds. I want to know what it is before I block it.

I too have about 6000 per day coming from the router
