Do you think others will be added to the vulnerable list sooner or later? It seems so many have been hit. Just spent £80 on a new router AC1600 and I haven't got it out of the box yet. Wondering whether to send it back and wait until all this has filtered through...

Plus points, it's a reasonably new model and it has got plenty of functions to keep you safe from the average threat but not the ultra threat and tbh the ultra threat will always find a way anyway, net security by nature is reactive rather than pro-active because until there is a detection there's not much to be pro-active about other than strong forms of encryption, give it a few years and the PC of that day will probably be able to crack a 500 digit long code in 2 minutes flat,

As for the Asus models, very good on paper but very old and as things progress old tech is easily picked off regardless whether it's been patched of not, Netgear are equally as slow to react as TPL is unless they get a severe prompting to do something about issues and as you've probably seen just about everyone who makes a router is effected, if you want good Wifi the Asus 68U is double the money the 1600 is and so is the Nethawk 7000 and tbh those are the only two I'd choose right now over a TPL offering,

Before you set the router up play with the emulator on the support page to familiarise yourself with what it can do, change all the defaults, read the help for each function and decide what you want to change, do it while connected to the PC but not to the Broadband line when you go for it, at the very least ensure WPS and UPNP are disabled and , don't waste your time on Mac filtering and Whitelisting, straw doors in a Hurricane, DO NOT enable remote management unless you absolutely need it,

Summary is for the cost of the 1600 you won't get anything better for features or security and at least a TPL unit works, read how many Asus and Netgear users complain about the connection being lost all the time, HTH.
