I am considering buying a timer switch to power cycle the router on a schedule, e.g., at 4am every day.  That got me to wondering:  Does clicking reboot on the web interface simply cause the router to power cycle, and nothing more?  Asked another way, if I made a change to the settings where I must click reboot for the changes to take effect, could I power cycle the router instead with exactly the same results?

Doing a reboot via the interface or disconnecting the plug will give the same result. So I don't think you would need a timer switch, maybe as a backup should you not be able to log into the router for whatever reason.
