Newby....and dangerous with I.T. situations such as these.

 

Looking to see if my cable modem needs (or has) a firmware update available.  I've pulled up my device via IP, but found no prompt under 'Advanced' for such updates.  Where does one find these ...?  (or do I go get the DOCSIS 3.1 TC-7620 ??)

For cable certified products such as cable modems and gateways the only place to get firmware updates is from the ISP.  Your ISP is sent firmware, will review it and verify it and then add it as an OTA update.  You can contact them and ask if there is an update or if they can push an update to your modem.  Some level 1 agents may say that they don't do this for modems not provided by them but that is false.  If you get that response ask for a level 2 tech or a supervisor.

How can they do that if there is no internet connection?
