Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: A7_v5_190517

After a firmware upgrade, our A7 router continues to enable Ipv6/Ipv4 connectivity to Apple devices, but now our two Windows-based computers won’t connect to Ipv6 sites, only to Ipv4.   Did the “ipconfig /all” check, and both PCs show correct Ipv6 addressing, but stubbornly refuse to allow connectivity.  NICs also show “Ipv6 Internet”, but to no avail.  Let me be very clear that NO changes were made to network adapters, nor were ANY changes made on the A7 Ipv6 set-up page before or after firmware upgrade.  Anybody here have any idea about what’s going on?

Router: Archer A7 v.5

Firmware: A7(US)_v5_190517

OK, problem solved, with huge assist from engineer Adam Li, via a remote connection!  He determined that a protection option on latest Malwarebytes (installed on both Windows machines) software release inhibits proper IPv6 connectivity outside home LAN...disabling “web protection” restores IPv6 connectivity.  So, need to get onto MWBytes pronto to inform them of conflict.  Interestingly enough, I updated Malwarebytes app about the same time latest A7 firmware installed...who knew?

At any rate, major props to Adam Li for sorting this issue!  Now, THAT’S customer service!

If you pull the system logs, is there anything eluding to your Windows computers?

Nothing notable, certainly no “critical” flags associated with windows laptop.

It could be that the windows machines did not release the old IVP6 addresses. The A7 got a new PD from your ISP.

Try the following:

1. Use "ipconfig /release6" and "ipconfig /renew6" to refresh the ipv6 address.
2. Try to disable IPV6 and enable IPV6 on network adapter settings of his computer.

Thank you for weighing in, Tony, with your suggestions.  Tried the “ipconfig /release6” command and got an error message saying “an error occurred while releasing interface Local Area Connection 3:  system cannot find the file specified”, which may be significant here.  Also, going to NIC dialog box - which shows Ipv6 connectivity - , “disable” followed by “enable” wipes out Ipv6 connectivity, i.e., IPv6  no internet access.  Reboot the laptop, Ipv6 addressing assigned, but as usual can’t access Ipv6 sites...ipv6-test.com, test-ipv6.com, etc.

I actually have a older

TP-Link Archer C7 v2 set aside for emergency backup use, and which gave full Ipv6 connectivity to PCs when it was in service as main router.  I will - time permitting - reactivate and see if I can recover Ipv6 connectivity for Windows PCs.

Just got a notice from Malwarebytes that a beta release of MBAM has addressed and fixed the IPv6 connectivity problem.  This is the way the tech world should work, but rarely does.

Confirmed...new Malwarebytes antivirus release 3.8.3.xxxx restores full IPv6 connectivity...they copped to the flaw in previous release.
