Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.8 Build 20190403 Rel. 43515

I have 3 Deco M9 Plus devices are pretty warm (they are brand new and recently bought from Costco).  2 of them are 47 degrees Celsius and 3rd one is 51 degrees Celsius.  The specification says normal operating temperature is from 0 - 40 degree celcius.  This is abnormal.   Has anyone experience this issue?  Thanks.

@PD2

The devices can run a bit warm. With those temperatures you should be fine, and as long as you are using the original power suppllies. Another thing is to make sure they are in a ideal environment such as not completely enclosed or anything that would prevent proper airflow.

I'm using the original adapters.  The Deco M9 devices are in open space and have a good airflow around them.  However, the spec says the normal operating temperature should not exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

Please advise.

@PD2

Here is a FAQ that talk about Decos becoming warm: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1902/

The operating temperature is not the temperature the Decos should be running, but the temperature that the environment should be.

@PD2 one of mine runs at 61°C. I have swapped it with another unit and that also runs that high. if I put the units somewhere else they run at 40°.

it seams the units get hot when therthered to a switch (also TPlink). im now returning for something else but not sure what.

Regards

Warren.

Someone in YouTube suggested we put the unit on its side for better cooling?

@PbCa Hello, i have seen the wall mounts. anything bettween £9.00 and £16.99 each. and then you have to fix then to the wall.

I do put mine on its side in one room, but then i switch it off at night as i dont want to risk it overheating.

Mine are going back when I find something else.

i have been looking at the deco m60 but again not if they are going to run hot and the price is also a sticking point.

Regards,

Warren.

Hi Warren

I sat my 3 units on their sides on top of a furniture with enough distance from other devices and not on wall. It seems to have reduced the heat.

@

Here is my solution to keeping things cool. May not be pretty but seems to work.

I use the ring tops from wide mouth canning jars and drill three holes in the ring evenly spaced around the perimeter. screwed three 8x1 inch metal screws partially and evenly into the holes the put some Gorilla Glue on the screw points so they won't wobble. Zet the DECO unit on the ring and it has room to breath.
