I just purchased this and my daughter set it up for me. She's very competent with her computer and accessories skills. The problem is that the unit gets warm and when that happens it stops working, if I unplug it and let it cool down and then plug it in again it starts working again. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix or might the unit be defective?

Based on your description there can really only be two possible reasons.  1.  The heatsink in the unit is not properly cooling of the processor causing it to shut down. 2.  The outlet has an issue causing the product to overheat.  Easy to solve, move the extender to a different outlet and see if the issue repeats if so a replacement would be needed.
