Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.10 Build 20190517 rel.65170(5553)

I've manually setup DHCP on my AC1750 to use my pi-hole as the DNS server, but after renewing the IP on my workstation, both the pi-hole IP and the router IP show up as a DNS server when reviewing the network configuration.  Am I overlooking something?

@Witchboard

If you go to Advanced > Network > Internet > Click on Advanded in the middle of the page. What do you have for the Primary / Secondary DNS servers?

If you go to Advanced > Network > DHCP Server, what do you have for Default Gateway, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS?

Hello @Tony.

The primary and seconday DNS servers for Internet is 68.105.28.11 and 68.105.29.11.  These are the DNS servers of my ISP since they are automatically obtained via Dynamic IP.  I tried setting these to my pi-hole as I'm running a recursive DNS resolver as well, but it said the DNS server IP address and LAN IP address cannot be in the same subnet.

DHCP default gateway is 192.168.0.1 and primary DNS is 192.168.0.5 (Pi-hole).  I do not have a secondary DNS server set.  I tried removing the default gateway on my initial testing, but it doesn't remove the router as a DNS server, it just removes the default gateway.

I hope this is helpful.

What happens if you make the DHCP default gateway 192.168.0.5?

@Tony

I just changed the setting on the router and renewed my IP on my workstation. It changed the default gateway to 192.168.0.5, and subsequently broke Internet access, but the secondary DNS of 192.168.0.1 was still reported.

So, anything else you want me to try?  Is it just me or is this reproducable by somebody else?

The information we received from HQ is that the client device will use the primary DNS server by default, only if the primary DNS is not responding would it try to use the router.

Are you able to have the primary and secondary both reference the pi-hole server or does it metion both need to address need to be unique?

@Tony

Thanks for the response. I feel like an idiot for not trying this before. When applying the IP for both the primary and secondary DNS servers, it no longer lists the router as a DNS server. I guess you have to have both configured to keep the router from automatically applying itself as a secondary. Thanks again for the assist.

No worries, we both learned something new regarding this.

@Tony I'm having the exact same issue, but my AX20 requires each DNS server to have a unique address. Any suggestions?
