Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 180114 most recent

My TP-Link Router is just 2-1/2 years old and it works on 5GHz only now

Stopped working on 2.4 G

I flashed the latest firmware, factory reset

And still the same?

Is it dead already?

I have a backup that is old but never fails (WRT-54GL)

But still prefer the newer tech and faster speed

Any ideas?

PS I changed the SSID and Password and I even removed the password. Still same

Aslo: I use it for an access point actually disable the dhcp and my internet does not come to it.

It is plugged into my Network Switch and has worked for 2-1/2 years

Regards

@W8WCA

Just doing the factory default will have both band broadcasted. Make sure to check on another device just to verify you can not see the 2.4GHz. If that is the case, the 2.4GHz sounds like it may have failed.

Look at the LED lights on the router. See if the 2.4GHz is on. If it is not, log into the router, and disable the 2.4GHz, and re-enable it to see if it will come on.

@W8WCA found a resolution to this issue on latest 2020 firmware.

Issue is dhcp on router not issuing anything connected to 2.4g with an ip

Resolution to this is to go to connection then to LAN

Change ip of router to 192.168.1.1 then let router reboot and should now work. Access to router admin page will now be on 192.168.1.1.

I had this issue where it would connect to 2.4g but had no Internet access but the 5g was connecting and getting Internet fine on a brand new tp-link archer c50 v4.0 as soon as buying it and this is what got it going.

It seems like the router doesn't work correct on 192.168.0.1 with the dhcp issuing 192.168.0.* ip but works fine on 192.168.1.*

@W8WCA

For what its worth folks, I was having a similar issue to those voiced before this reply.  One of the variables I don't see above (likely I overlooked it) is I use this router in my home for all my smart devices, switches, plugs, communication devices, wireless cameras, printers etc.  With today's smart house crap, one can easily exceed the (apparent) 64-wireless units maximum.

I spent most of the morning in an online chat with CS hashing through this.  Something that appears to not be advertised but is lurking in the darkness.  I purchased the ac2600 when I was told the ac1750 would not be able to handle the volume.  I now have 2 paper weights sitting in my closet.  If your network is capable (mine isn't) to span over the 2.4 & 5Ghz links, it will double the 64 unit ceiling; giving you 128-user limit.

The CS rep did say the "Deco" devices have limitations up to 150-wireless devices.  Something to consider if you want to stay with TPLink or something to ask when getting something from the competition.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/deco-mesh-wifi/product-family/

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL POST:

Contrary to what I indicated in my original post above, the router CANNOT support more than 63-devices...period!  This would include wired, 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, & guest combined.  This appears to be a severe limitation of the TP-Link overall connectivity-making the routers worthless for any sort of smart home consideration.  I would not recommend these products to anyone...always verify FOR YOURSELF if the limitation exists...apparently their tech support believes there is a way around the limitation...they're isn't.

Hi All and Apexx22,

It's 2 am and I've been working for hours trying to resolve the same thing...

The app shows that my AC1750 extender is connected to 2.4 and 5mgz. But when I run speedtests, the 2.4 is extremely slow, meaning it's only seeing the actual rooter, whereas 5 is blindingly fast. Also, I've noticed that the 2.4 LED on the 1750 is weak and barely lit whereas the LED of the 5 is very bright (the light coming through the 2.4 LED might just be from the 5 below which is so strong...)

I'm using a TP-Link Archer VR2800 connected to the Plusnet main phone socket. Both it and the extender are exactly 3 years old. I need the extender's 2.4 specifically because the Sky box doesn't see a 5mgz signal unless it's coming from a Sky modem/router.

Thing is, the IP of the router already IS 192.168.1.1  and access to its admin page is that too.

So I don't think a reboot is going to help? I checked and the firmware is up to date.

Anything you can suggest? I was thinking maybe it's conked out and I need a new one, but seeing that you had this problem with a brand new c50 leads me to think it's something that needs fixing in its settings?
MANY THANKS!

@W8WCA

Good morning guys, I've been running the tp link archer with no issues since that post. All my issues were down to the dhcp issuing 192.168.0.*

Changed it to 192.168.1.*

Router no longer accessible on 192.168.0.1

Router is accessible on 192.168.1.1

2.4g band been stable and happy since
