When trying to set the WAN port to negotiate at 2500 full duplex i cant not get an internet connection to my modem.  I reset the modem and router after making the setting change and still lose internet access.  When i put it back to 1000 full duplex it works.  I have gigabit internet, in fact I'm told i get 1.25gig sent to my house, hence the reason why i was trying 2500.  Any clue on why this doesn't work?  Thanks!  Also my Ethernet cables support it.

I would leave the port negotiation to auto.

 

What is the model of your modem?

I have spectrum...its their gigabit modem...i think its made by Hitron.  Its the only model they have for gigbit.

If your modem has a gigabit port forcing the TP-Link router to 2.5G may be messing with the link setting between the two devices. In your case if the modem only has a gigabit, then no matter if you have speeds higher then a gigabit, your highest speed will be what the modem can output on that port. On the router end, leave that setting on Auto.

Ok.  The biggest problem has been when i hook up my computer to a lan port I Speedtest to 800-1gig....when i run the internal speedtest i never get higher then 700, it mostly hovers in the 400-650 range all the time.  Do you know why it does that?

I've seen that with Deco speed tests as well where the reported speed is slower than the individual tests. With the Deco it was software related so that may be the case on the router as well.
