Hello,

I have an TP-Link AC1750 router. I recently purchased a new modem (Arris SB6183) in order to get the maximum download speeds (200 Mbps) allowed by my plan. The modem and PC are connected to the router. After setting up the new modem and doing several speed tests I found I was getting the same download speed (83 Mbps) I was getting with my old modem. I contacted my service provider (Xfinity) who had me connect my PC directly to the modem. When connected directly to the modem I was able to get the 200+ Mbps download speeds. When connected to the router, I do not.

The 5G WiFi speed on my Amazon Fire HD (2017) tablet is about 66 Mbps.

The 5G WiFi speed on my Google Pixel 2 is about 235 Mbps

The wired speed on my Dell PC (about 2.5 years old) is 83 Mbps

I read another thread that suggested disabling NAT Boost. I did, and my wired speed is still the same.

Another suggestion I read was changing the Duplex setting from Auto Negotiation to 1000 Mbps Full Duplex. I tried that, and while my wired connection speed stayed the same the 5G speed on my Pixel 2 dropped from 200+ Mbps to 90 Mbps. I changed it back to Auto Negotiation.

I am using CAT5e cables.

What other settings can I change on the router that will allow me to get the higher wired download speeds allowed by my plan?

Thank you in advance.

With respect to NAT Boost, have you tried to disable QoS and enable NAT Boost?

Your 5G looks to be good so the cable from the router to the modem should be good. Have you swapped the cable from the computer to the router and changed ports?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I enabled QoS and disabled NAT Boost

I enabled QoS and enabled NAT Boost

I disabled QoS and disabled NAT Boost

I disabled QoS and enabled NAT Boost

and got the same results (83 Mbps) via my wired connrection each time.

I also tried swapping the cables and trying a different port on the router and got the same results.

Look at the link speed of your computer when it is connected to the TP-Link router. Does it say 1 Gbps or 100 Mbps?

Do you happen to have another wired device to test the speeds to see if you still get around 80 Mbps?

@Tony

It says 1.0 Gbps

I connected my desktop to the router via WiFi instead of the ethernet cable. When I did that I got the 200+ Mbps speeds. When I turned off WiFi on my desktop and reconnected via the ethernet cable I still got the 200+ Mbps speeds.

Before I connected my desktop via WiFi, the name of my network was Network 2 or Network 3, I assume depending which port on the router I plugged the cable into. After I disconnected from WiFi and reconnected via the cable, the name of the network changed to the default name used for my WiFi connection.

I'm glad it seems to be working correctly now and I'm getting the speeds I'm supposed to be getting, but I'm not sure why it's working now. What do you think?

If nothing has changed, I can only think the links rates were not right so when both devices renegotiated it was finally corrected.
