Connecting travel router to Xfinity Hotspot
I am trying to connect my TL-WR902AC travel router to an Xfinity WiFi Hotspot. I can connect to the 2.4Ghz network available at my location and get internet but that signal is weak/spotty. The 5Ghz network is much stronger and I can connect to it but don't get internet (dynamic IP fields in admin settings shows all zeroes). I can connect my laptop directly to the 5Ghz and get internet, so I know it's available. I've been able to authenticate the travel router to Xfinity WiFi and see its MAC address on my list of approved devices. Any ideas on why I can't get internet access when connected to the 5Ghz Xfinity WiFi hotspot with my travel router and/or a solution?

I used the idea from @RaDiOkArMa and just googled open wrt on TPLink WR902AC and found this on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIM_2BLi91M&t=338s&ab_channel=ARKDUKECUSTOMS
I followed it and have found it relatively easy to do :-)
Why TPlink could not sort this out with their software I don't know.....

I havent . I am hoping when I get back to Florida home to get a better English speaking pwrson on the phone early in the morning. It is gonna have to relate to the IP and masking some things. Way over my head but a tech should be able to fix this. Xfinity isntpushing 2.4 in many hotspots only 5ghz so tplink needs to step up and figure this out. My travel router is a paper weight rt now.

@Jeffswift Thank you thank you for posting! I am finally able to connect my TL-WR902AC to my xfinity hotspot. switching to static and copying my xfinity IP address/subnet mask/router(gateway). seems like once I saved it I did nt even have to finish the quick set up. Oh my gosh. I've been trying for months, thank you!

@Ibekae I went through hours of tech support that was escalated to their HQ in China. Their engineers responded with a very simple answer: this device cannot do what we are trying to do. They advised me to return it for a refund, which I did. Instead, I purchased a GL inet travel router and it works perfectly.

@RaDiOkArMa I've got openwrt installed in my WR902ac but cannot find any resources or step by step guides to get it to connect to xfinitywifi over 5g and rebroadcast it over the 2.4g antenna. Any direction or guidance that you've found that you can share?

I ended up ditching mine and getting one of these https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-mt1300/
Easy to set up and so far has been rock solid in picking up any 5G and repeating 5G and more importantly 2.4G for my smart devices. This is how the TP-Link product should work but it doesn't 😞
