Model: Archer C5400
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1

I just got the router and connected my external seagate to it as a media device. The problem is it's always running even when not in use, and it gets noisy. I'm also worried about it being on all the time, is there a way for for me to let it standby or sleep whenever not in use?

@Anon222

I don't think any router idles the External Drives.

I've got an Archer A20 and it appears to be running all the time. It is a WD 4TB and I can feel it running and the blue light is on. Same for some NetGear routers I've used with it.

I guess you could open a CHAT with Support and ask them?

@Anon222

Someone mentioned with another older router (ours) of the drive always being active. I think that is the case where it does not stop an HD from spinning like a NAS system would.

So like @IrvSp mentioned, I do not think our routers do that.
