See my post above from Wed. The External drive connected to the router was assigned internally as G:.

That is how you access the drive. Even doing a NET USE. See this:

That was the drive letter I was mentioning. It is assigned to the partition on the drive internally by the router for sharing purposes. Some routers will allow a multi-partitioned drive and only show/share the contents of the Primary or first partition. Others can't work with the drive at all, only a single partitioned drive.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm using Linux and connecting using Samba. There is definitely a problem with the new firmware. Here's what I noticed.

New Firmware (dated 04-11-2020 v5 201030);

Unable to connect with either ftp or sftp

Unable to connect with Samba or Windows using password.

Able to connect with Samba with encrypted access turned off. Which suggests an issue with the Samba sharing software.

Firmware (dated 05-08-2020 v5 200628);

All sharing works as designed with or with out passwords and access to ftp and sftp inside and outside of local network.

Easiest solution for now I'm using the previous firmware.

No, you'll not see a drive letter assigned INTERNALLY in the router unless when looking at the NETWORK with WINDOWS EXPLORER you click on the ROUTER SHARE, i.e.

In my case, 'g', the same as I showed you 2 weeks ago (above) on my USB GUI on the router in a browser.

You can also see the same using NET VIEW:

However, when you LOOK at the disk via a DIR, you will NOT see the INTERNAL drive letter.

You had to use that 'drive letter (well, it didn't include a : so maybe that is why you didn't think it was a drive letter?) to share the root or specific folder on the USB drive.

My f/w GUI is pretty clear about the drive letter it is using (and I can have 2 USB drives connected so the identification is important), see this:

I would think yours would look the same. I'd suspect common code for USB drives is used in all TP-Link routers?

The 'only' time you'd use the 'g' in my case  is when I wanted access to the ROOT of the drive under a PC specific drive letter. Just like I showed in the DIR above.
