Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20200827 Rel. 40928(5553)

My devices are disconnecting every time I turn off WMM. What's up with WMM that causes this?

Seems odd for that to be the cause. The feature is a form of QoS that prioritizes certain activities such as video and voice. If there are issues with speeds that feature is recommended to be disabled.

@Tony

I have this same issue..

I just spent over $1000 on a new new AX11000 and an Ax 3000 pcie card.

As I have no other option I have to wifi to the other router, which is 20 meters away through a couple of walls.

I used to get around 50/20mb average on old ISP router.

Flicked to the tplink setup, not much better..

Tinkered with a few settings finally got 120mb down 90 up..so was happy with that..

But gaming was all laggy..

Seen some posts about wmm causing lag, soon as I turn it off I can no longer conect to the router via my pc..

Am running latest firmware, and drivers.

Please note I can no longer access the admin page either to turn it back on.

Update:

Ok so I've been trouble shooting all day and heres what I found.

If I conect to the ax11000 on 2.4ghz, on channel 11 I can get speeds up to 200mb down 90ish up.

Gaming is still super laggy.

Try to disable wmm..

Can No long connect, have to hard reboot the router..

If I Put my old wifi card back in, I can connect. Get speeds of 50/50 give or take..

Disable wmm, am still able to connect, and minimal lag in gaming, ( odd spike) as to be expected.

Connect new pcie wifi ax3000 to old ISP router.

25-80dwn /50up, but gaming is super stable.

Also.

When wmm disabled, my phone starts getting authentication error messages.

But once I reset router, all is fine till the next time I disable it

I am seeing the same behavior. When I try turning off WMM, no wifi client can associate any longer

I tested it out on my AX10 and I was able to see that when WMM was disabled it does affect my Android phone, but not my Windows 10 machine. I'll forward this to support to look into.

@DjDejavu

What AX3000 card do you have?

Thanks for replying! Unfortunately, this part was tricky because when I turn off WMM, my laptop still has Wi-Fi access, but the family and their phones cannot. Turning WMM back on was the feature that allowed the phones to reconnect, but I had issues with it in my past router, too. I used to have a AC1200 Archer A5 and disabling WMM on it definitely had better speeds compared to that same Archer A5 when WMM was turned on. And other devices like phones were able to connect despite having the feature disabled, too.

Disabling WMM was one of the troubleshooting steps when users experienced slow speeds, but I don't ever remember it blocking connection. That would be something like MAC filtering that would do that so that's very odd.

I am having this same issue with my AX10 on the latest firmware. If I turn off WMM, both my iPhone and MacBook Pro cannot connect.

I am using AX73, this problem also happen for this model:

- By default, WMM is enabled, it is working fine with all devices (notebook, desktop, andorid mobile, etc.)

- See internet forum that people recommend to turn off WMM for performance:

--> Samsung S10 will then won't be able to connect neither 2.4GHz nor 5GHz WIFI...

--> However, LG G3 is able to connect both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WIFI, have a try to find an older device to connect to router to turn the WMM to "On", so that you don't need a hard reset...

It seems to me a bit odd that WMM disable causing network connectivity issue, also for AX73, any long term solution? Thanks!

I'm having the same issue on a AX1800. When I turn off WMM, clients can't connect. Do you guys know if this is a client side issue or router side issue?
