So i bough this switch to hardwire my apple tv, IPTV box, the Orbi Wireless Mesh Router, PS5. Connected it all everything seems to work except the PS5 cannot find IP address. If i hardwire the PS5 to the Orbi it works perfectly fine with a big drop in speed.

Yesterday had everything disconnected from power and such for several hours while i did some cable management inside my entertainment unit under the tv. Now the apple tv doesnt work hardwired to the tp-link swtich which it was before perfectly fine and PS5 doesnt want to connect no matter what. Cannot detect IP.

I get a new switch this thursday, a 5 port managed gigabit swith from Unifi to see if that way i can get the PS5 to work which is why i ordered it in the first place, just happen to now the apple tv doesnt want to work.

I tried different cables, i tried different ports. No luck.

Thanks in advance!!!

@Yax

I would try statically assigning IP addresses. If the switch lights up when you connect the PS5, then it detects a connection. Something may be going wrong with DHCP trying to traverse through the switch with that one device.

@Yax

When I mentioned static IP this would be for your devices. So for the PS4 you would assign a static IP to its network configuration rather than leaving it on DHCP. You do not need to do anything on the router end. As long as the network settings are correct it will work with the switch.

So say your router gives out IP addresses of 192.168.0.x

Your PS4 would have something like:

IP: 192.168.0.250

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.0.1

DNS: 192.168.0.1

@Tony Tried that and did not work. This switch gives you a weird ip address and all those things. Did it by ipconfig while connected through wire.

This is why i ordered a Unifi managed switch to see if i am able to make it work, because this switch is conplicating things.

My Orbi Wifi Mesh gives a 192.168 ip address which automatically makes the PS5 work. The tp link gives a 64. Something something weird, changes all configurations.

@Yax

The thing is the switch is not capable of giving an IP address itself. So if you are seeing a different IP upcoming from that, then trace all the cables, you may be connecting to something you didn't know was connected.

@Tony Well the issue was that i am an idiot. I was connecting the switch directly to the modem therefor only 1 port was giving internet which was being stolen by my Orbi router.

Once i realized i was being an idiot and connected the switch to the router, everhthing worked as it should.

Thanks Tony, appreciate the help given!!!
