Archer A20 slow speed, appears to be resetting?
2021-01-20 06:06:20
Model: Archer A20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20191026 rel.10453(5553)

My internet connection has been getting slow on me lately.  Whenever it gets slow, I log in & reboot the cable modem (Cox) and my router.  This usually works to speed things back up for awhile.  Over the last couple days it's happened to me twice.  I pay for Gigabit down (950Mb) and 35Mb up.  When I ran speedtest earlier on my pc, I was getting 90Mb up & 0.46 down!  Working from home, this is not cutting it for remote desktops.  I switched my wire from running into the Archer A20, to run directly into the 2nd port on my cable modem & was immediately getting 931Mb down & 34Mb up!!!  Reboot router, switch back to A20, my speeds get better at 625Mb down/28Mb up, which is servicable (but still curious about the drop).

When I look at the System Log (snippits below), it looks like when things really bog down, it's going through some sort of initialization/reboot every minute until I get sick up it (I'm assuming) and log in to reboot everything.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ian

@azzi9

I don't know, that log isn't what I see on my A20:

Same firmware as well.

Even my router reboot from a few days ago doesn't look like yours?

I suggest contacting Support.

@IrvSp thanks for the reply!

I had copied/reformatted the log to paste here.  I guess screenshot would have made more sense. :)

I have reached out to support & am playing the email game.  I now have my router set to automatically reboot every morning & the slowdown has gotten better, but it still drops out 1-2 times a day.  Today it was during the middle of a meeting I was supposed to be participating in.  If this was some $20 router, I'd likely just trash it & get something better.  But it's not. :(

@azzi9

I keep my router connected to a UPS, just in case we have a power glitch. Some router's do not like being on Surge Protector's either.

You could be experiencing an electrical problem possibly. Use a different outlet if possible, not on the same line, as a test.

Possible you have a faulty power supply too I guess?

@IrvSp I'm on a APC ups, that's powering my switch, cable modem & server as well.  I haven't seen any errant behavior on those (unless it's been masked by these?

But I'll go ahead and run an extension cord across the living room to grab an outlet on a different circuit.  I'm willing to try damn near anything at this point!

Uhh, unless the APC unit isn't working, you probably are wasting your time. You can look via a desktop app at the log on the APC, that would tell you for sure.
