Access Point reduces LAN/WLAN Speed compared with input LAN?

Hi,
I have configured by TP-WR841N as Access Point. Its 'Internet Port' is connected to a LAN line with 400MBit/s. It works ok and stable. However, when I measure the speed at the LAN output ports I get only 30-40 MBit/s. Same over the WiFi, when the device is right next to my Laptop the max speed I get is about 40MBit/s.
Why is the TP-WR841N reducing the speed this much? Are the 400MBit/s too much for the 10/100 LAN ports?

thanks so much for getting back to me. I followed your instructions and got the following:
1.) I tested both LAN cables by attaching them one after the other on one end to my main router (FritzBox 6490 Cable), the other my laptop. I got the 400MBits/s with each of the cables, so they both should be fine.
2.) Next, I reset the WR841N (longpress on reset button and wait for reboot):
- connect main router (FritzBox 6490 Cable) with WAN port of WR841N
- connect LAN4 with my PC
Then I ran a speed test and got >300MBits/s. So it seems the Hardware is capable of this speed.
3.) I reconfigured the WR841N to an Access Point by following the instructions you gave (Option 2):
- select Quick Setup from WR841N menu
- select Access Point -> next
- left all settings a default (for test): Wireless enabled, SSID = TP-Link_7490, WPA2-PSK pwd = 14142147 -> next
- select "Static IP" and set to 192.168.0.254 [Note: my main router's DHCP range is set to 192.168.0.20 ... 192.168.0.200. So I set the WR841N to 192.168.0.254 which should be out of the DHCP range], deselect DHCP -> next
- Summary:
Wireless Settings
Operation Mode:Access Point
Wireless Channel:Auto
Wireless Network Name(SSID):TP-Link_7490
Wireless Security Mode:WPA2-PSK
Wireless Password:14142147
LAN Settings
Default Access:http://tplinkwifi.net
LAN Type:Static IP
IP Address:192.168.0.254
-> finish
After rebooting, the WR841N showed up in the main router's table at 192.168.0.254 as it should. Then I was able to login to the WR841N using the 192.168.0.254 IP.
I tested speed again. Main Router still goes into WAN, Laptop connected to WR841N LAN4: speed now almost 100MBit/s
So it seems to be fine, now. I am note sure what I did differently this time but maybe before I was just not having the right focus to configure the Access Point.

Test the cable coming from the router to the internet port of the 841N with a wired computer, then swap that cable with the one being used going to the LAN port of the 841N. See if one of the two cables may be causing the slowdown.
Factory reset the 841N, leave it in default settings, and connect that router to your existing router and test the wired LAN speeds again.
