I've recently started using a DNS that does logging of domain requests. I am consistently seeing the #1 domain being verisign servers - this is not a surprise. However, #2 domain is always www.tp-link.com.

 

So for the last 24 hours:

a.root-servers.net (Verisign) - 8192 requests

www.tp-link.com - 5560 requests

 

I do have several TP-Link devices, but that is a rediculous amount of traffic to TP-Link. Before i just block it and see what happens, maybe there is a valid reason.

 

Why that much traffic? What are an Archer A7 router, Archer A6 (AP mode) and two gigabit switches doing that requires that much phone-home activity?

Either the TP-Link device is bound to a cloud account or it is doing that to detect if the device has internet.
