Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.11

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a completely separate network for my kids to insulate them from the computers I have to use for work.  I currently have an ASUS as my "main" router and am attempting to use the Archer A7 as my sub-WAN (?)

I have the CAT-5 coming out of the ASUS and into the Internet port of the Archer.

ASUS IP: 192.168.1.1

TP-Link settings:

LAN

IP: 192.168.3.1

Subnet: 255.255.255.0

IPv4

IP Address: 192.168.1.1  (Asus)

Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (?)

Primary DNS: 208.67.222.222 (using OpenDNS)

Secondary DNS: 207.67.220.220

Switch Mode:

Router (Do I want Access Point?)

With these settings, I'm still not able to get internet, and seems to bug out some of the connections on the ASUS.

Any advice sincerely appreciated.  Thank you!

@VrmVrm

The IPv4 address (WAN) can not be the same as the IP of the ASUS so the TP-Link router should be something like 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.250. The gateway is correct as it points to the main router.

@Tony

Thank you.  I now know that I needed to set my LAN IP address to the address of the TP Link (192.168.3.1), and set the IPv4 IP Address as a Static IP that corresponded with the main (ASUS) router (192.168.1.3).

Thank you for your help!
