Mounting an M9

   - is there any performance difference between mounting horizontal vs vertical?

   - what is the recommendation if the primary goal is wifi coverage on the floor above me vs the floor I am on?

   - what is the recommendation if a major consideration is reducing the heat buildup in the unit in 24x7x365 operation ?

@OracleDBA

The antenna is omnidirectional but it tends to broadcast in favor horizontally.

Generally placing the Deco on the floor the connection is needed the most. If the Deco needs to be on the floor below then placing the Deco directly below would be best.

Placing the Deco on a shelf where it is not enclosed. Some users have mentioned using small fans below to keep it cool, but as long as it is not encased in anything the Deco will be fine.

@Tony Thank you for the insight.

BTW, for those concerned with heat,

A Mcgyver solution that triples the air space under the deco without looking "stupid".

A standard size cottage cheese container lid has a white edge and a diameter that matches the outer diameter of the M9's feet.

The printing on flat part of lid will not matter you will never see it once installed.

Place lid on the M9, use a sharpie mark where the feet & lid "align".

now use scissors / knife and cut away everything on lid  "edge" which is not "feet".

use transparent scotch tape and neatly tape lid to deco so that the feet of lid touch and align with the feet of the M9.

From now on, when the M9 is on the shelf, all you see is "white" "legs"

and possibly white under the M9 itself.

However most importantly, there is now an air gap under the M9 which is triple the factory setup.

Casual observation indicates surface temp of M9 is cooler than before.

and the spot of the shelf where the M9 sits no longer gets "warm".
